HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRASH KING
(shown at “Art Offerings”, Bancroft Street Market, Omaha NE, Aug. 2011) Animation / Installation Jessie Fisher (This is the statement that was posted) I turned twenty-eight this year and I can’t say for certain that I am any wiser. Through art, I’ve explored some of the uncharted regions of my mind and have begun to make a road map. I’ve begun to compile a set of symbols that make up a personal mythology. When I find myself drawing the same images over and over, I make note of it. (Hands protruding from the ground or sky, man in a suit, dog/alligator-ish creature, umbrella, skull faced crowds, simplified cityscapes, fetuses, owl-like birds) Exploring the images further, I narrow them down. It is as if the mythological world of my mind started with many gods and only the strong survived. By animating some of these images I’ve given them place to live and interact. My goal is not to try to decode a mental mystery, but to take ownership of the continual process. I’ve decided to take these thoughts out from under the microscope and place them up on the altar. Think of it as a shrine to self-exploration, and an attempt to have something to show for it. |
