AFTER THE DUST BOWL AND
BEFORE THE FERTILIZER KILLED THE FISH ( Showed at “Petshop Gallery” for Benson First Friday In Omaha - Aug. 3rd 2012 ) This body of work deals with the process of urbanization, both personally and as a concept. Moving from a rural to an urban environment has given me an awareness of the complex gap between the two. These images document the process of reconciling my current values with the depression era values left to me by my grandparents, and dealing with a past that is both idealized and traumatic. This work also deals with time, time measured in changing addresses, generations, and ideological shifts rather than years. In the end, we are the ancestors. We become the past, a layer of sediment in the soil of the plains. |
