We all learned the periodic table in school. We were taught what matter is made of, but what are our lives made of? What are the single units of culture? The mass of each unit is relative. How heavily does our car, cell phone, or our home weigh on us?
These objects are like toys, building blocks, or pieces of a game. This game comes without instructions. The elements must be handled and reconfigured to suit the needs of each person.
The symbols carved into these tiles, cubes and eggs are something that I have been developing for a few years now. I have used them in several other projects. I think of them as an attempt to make sense of life in the 21st century from a primitive, or alien perspective. Imagine a paleolithic hunter/gatherer conducting and anthropological study on life in the 21st century as opposed to vice versa.
